Learning the Basics

Beginning Quiltmaking
If you’ve never created a quilt before, or are self-taught, this is a great place to start. Learn easy piecing techniques from the first cut to a finished quilt. Students will learn basic techniques for rotary cutting, sewing straight, pressing, piecing, graphing squaring, assembly, borders, layering, basic hand quilting or tying and binding and much, much more! Class discussions will cover the selections, uses, and quality of quilting supplies including thread, fabric, and batting.
Required book: Quilter’s Academy, Freshman Year

Basic Machine Applique’
Master the techniques for doing easy, fusible machine appliqué in this workshop and take home a panel which can become a simple wall hanging, pillow or the start to a bigger quilt!

Basic Foundation Paper Piecing
Learn to paper piece while making “A Gentle Reminder” block designed by Carolyn McCormick, creator of the Add-A-Quarter Ruler. See how piecing on paper results in amazing accuracy of points and designs. You’ll want to take this class if you plan to join in on the Paper Pieced Sampler class coming soon!

Hand Applique’

various techniques to hand appliqué, and once you’ve
mastered this skill you can add so much to your

Introduction to REDWORK
Beautiful redwork embroidery and quilting are a perfect compliment to each other and in this class you will learn the basics to get you started with this time honored technique. Students will have a basic project started and techniques mastered in just one class!

Basic Bindings and Beyond
Bring a quilted project that needs binding and discover techniques for straight and bias bindings, mitering inside and outside corners and invisible joins and much more. Learn the traditional combination of machine and hand stitched binding. Also covered will be the formula for determining yardage for binding requirements and what the judges look for in shows!

Square in a Square

Square in a Square Basics
Learn to make more accurate quilts, never sew or cut another triangle and have more fun making all those quilts you want to make with the Square in a Square system. We will master the beginning four options, learn to use the ruler accurately and easily and create a small wall hanging in the process. A Must Have class if you want to take the SnS BOM Feathered Star class

Feathered Star Block of the Month the Sns Method!
The feathered star is often considered an advanced quilt pattern and with the Square in a Square method the difficulty is all but gone! We will create a different star center for each of the 9 blocks for this quilt and explore many of the SnS options as we go. There is an organizational class on October 18th to discuss materials and demonstrate the basics of the feather. Monthly classes will be held to create each new star center.

Round Robin with a Twist!
A round robin quilt is similar in concept to a “friendship” quilt – make a block and pass it along to another member of the class to add to the design and on it goes. In this session of this class offering we will be following a series of “directions” chosen to enhance your color choice and piecing skills. These quilts are sure to increase your knowledge, skills and fun – jump to another level of quilt making in this exciting and challenging class! A class minimum of 4 is needed for this to work.

Little Lone Stars
Join in the fun of foundation paper piecing along with folding and miniatures! This quilt will amaze and daze you as you create perfect little lone star blocks! Yes, you can make them bigger – we’ll show you how. A super way to use up lots of little scraps from you stash!

Snapshot Wall Hanging
Celebrate a special photo of a loved one or favorite vacation with this simple & fun Paper Pieced project.  We’ll paper-piece the focus block (Traditional Method) to highlight a favorite snapshot.  No prior paper-piecing experience necessary (just basic quilting skills).

Tree’s Up!
What’s more fun than trimming the traditional holiday tree? Creating a tree quilt from fat quarters of course! This simple, stack, shuffle and sew quilt is lots of fun to create and we’ll explore optional borders for using up the leftover fabric too!

Panel Pandemonium - Back by request!!
Got panels? In this workshop we will explore a variety of settings and techniques that can be used to create an original quilt beginning with a single or multiple panels. Design your quilt by adding borders, blocks and other designs. This is a great class for those who have completed the beginner’s class and are ready to try some more advanced piecing. Suggested book – Beyond the Block

Locker Hooking for Beginner’s

 Learn the basics of locker hooking, a craft from the early 1900s, to create any number of projects from placemats and table runners to rugs using fabric and canvas! Great fun!

  It’s a Wrap!
What do you do with al those leftover strips from your quilting projects? Wrap ‘em and sew ‘em and make a wonderful project! This is a great fun and fast project and makes wonderful colorful gifts too! Join us for coffee and creativity!

Pajama Party “a.k.a” Girls Night Out
Bring whatever project you want to work on and your appetite for food and fun! Class begins at 6 p.m. with a potluck dinner at 6:30. We’ll go home by midnight! This is a great opportunity to get away and get those projects done! $11 per night includes laughter & dessert!
